Putting up the 20' ledger board...too bad they ran out of bolts, but on the other hand, putting those bolts into the sheer wall is the nosiest occupation....I can feel the house vibrate! I arranged flowers while it was going on...trying for sort of a meditative stance...it worked actually.
Even in these high winds the work goes on. Danny and Jose are now on the west wall putting up the paper and plastic stuff to make sure we never have leaks. Earlier today, Stuart climbed up with scaffolding with his gas powered leaf blower on his back to clean out the huge gutter, and get all the debris off the roof. He said it wasn't scary, but it looked scary to me. Sorry now that I didn't think to get the camera, but I was riveted!
The front deck is coming along with the blocking starting to go in. It will have plywood on it for a while, until the awnings are welded up and in place...no scorch marks on the Ipe please!
Lot of progress has been made on the new Room by Room list. Todd came yesterday and today to replace more receptacles and assure me that the dimmer switches are on order...he also explained what all those wires hanging out of the house are for, and that they will not be holding up any part of the job. We also found out that the material for the shower divider which has been sitting in Lakeport, was finally opened up today by the sub, and found that it is the wrong color...So now we have the epoxy, but not the metal. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! And the big mirror over the sink had some sort of bevel issue...can a beveler be down? Anyway, that is promised for next week. And so it goes as we launch into the fifth month of work...in some ways it doesn't seem like it can possibly be that long, but yes, my dear, it really has been!
At least with the main indoor part of the house done, a few things are creeping back in and setting themselves up in entirely new places. This Dancing Shiva had a great backdrop of wildly tossing black bamboo as I started up the stairs...seemed fitting with all the motion and commotion! Now the only noise at the house is the wind, still blowing and flapping the plastic sheeting around the few areas where it remains!
